Naval Academy Wedding: Melanie + Barry

Their wedding was 10 years in the making.  Melanie, a Naval Academy Clinic Pharmacist, and Barry, a Navy Pilot, met in the fall of 2002 while both attending the Naval Academy.  They started dating in May of 2004 and then spent over 7 of their 10 years together separated.  They chose their wedding date of May 3, 2014 specifically because it was their 10th “anniversary.”  But the long wait suddenly became even longer.  Shortly before their big day, Melanie told me her father was in the hospital and not doing well.  An integral part of not only the ceremony but also her life, we looked at a last minute reschedule of their wedding in hopes of a recovery well enough for her father to be in attendance.  As Melanie and Barry contacted family and proposed new dates, we eventually settled on Memorial Day weekend.  They chose to keep their guest list small; so small, in fact, that they were all granted permission to sit where the choir usually sits at the front of the Naval Academy Chapel.  And as such, I was granted rare admittance to be up front with them as well.  It was a beautiful and intimate ceremony, the vast chapel filled with the love of these two sweet, kind, and compassionate people, and I am beyond thankful for the honor of capturing their day.

Melanie’s father’s oxygen requirement didn’t stop him from walking his daughter down the aisle.

We started with portraits in the Superintendent’s Garden then walked around the Academy.  With 1.5 hours for photos, we had plenty of time for some beautiful locations and shots!

Melanie and Barry, I’ve never met two kinder people who deserve all things good and wonderful in life.  All my best to you as you catch up to and surpass spending more years together than apart.  Much love…  Laurie

Maria - Absolutely beautiful. Every single one.

Andrea Medvid - Such breathtaking photos, full of so much love and happiness!! Brought tears to my eyes. Congratulations!
